Méribel is surely the best of the Trois Vallees resorts. It’s probably the prettiest, with a genuinely traditional mountain feel to its village center, and it certainly has the best location to make the most of the 600km of pistes that make the Trois Vallees one of the world’s largest and best.

Alpaca is the luxury chalet that your stay in Méribel deserves. Fourteen guests can enjoy this 930m2 luxury chalet with its outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, spa, sauna, home cinema and gym.

This is a building that is as impressive inside as it is out. Chalet Alpaca, completed in 2017, is a stand-out in both in size and its design – there is nothing to match it in Méribel . The latest tech and facilities and beautifully assembled interiors provide a guest environment that is up-to-date but respects its surroundings and Alpine traditions. This prestigious chalet is built for large families and groups and is the perfect place to enjoy a break with your extended family, friends, or work colleagues. When it’s time to get together, the huge central living area with its double-height ceilings is a breathtaking place to spend time. An open fireplace keeps the ambience warm and Alpine, while the magnificence of the surrounding mountains can truly be appreciated through the floor-to-ceiling windows while you sit back in the sumptuous, stylish sofas.

Whatever your personal plans, you will struggle to find a luxury ski chalet of this high quality in Méribel. The best Alpine chalets make the most of their position, and Alpaca certainly does that. Located high above the village it offers stunning views to the mountains and down the valley. The Doron piste and Rond Point are a few steps away, and the restaurants, boutiques and bars of the village are only a 5-minute drive by a private chauffeur. Mountain light floods in through the enormous windows in the main living area and throughout the chalet. The views will have you planning your next day’s skiing, and you’ll feel even closer to the slopes – and even warmer – in the copper hot tub or the infinity pool on the large terrace. If you want to continue your relaxation routine inside then pop into the hammam or sauna and ask your staff to call out for a massage specialist.

( food and wine at extra cost) and the house manager and host provide a full concierge service. Also included in the booking price is a dedicated chauffeur with vehicle between 8am and 2am.

A gym will help keep you in fine fettle for the next day on the slopes, and an indoor climbing wall is a reminder that there’s more to Alpine sports than just skiing. In fact, Chalet Alpaca has so many entertainment options, that spending time in this ultra-luxe mountain home is a huge pleasure. Music from a Sonos system will help set the mood while Apple TV keeps the box sets and movies on tap and Wi-Fi keeps you in touch with the world. The games room – with pool table and pinball – is more than child’s play, and a marvelous home cinema, a separate bar and a library offer myriad options for an evening’s diversion, alone or in special company.

There are six en-suite bedrooms. Each is uniquely designed, but all are wonderfully equipped – with luxurious linens and large en-suite bathrooms inside and terrace or balcony access for all rooms. The stunning master suite is a luxury property in its own right, with its own seating area and wood burner, a dressing room and its own private balcony.

In addition a two-bed apartment with separate access is available for staff.

While spending time with your party is tempting in somewhere like AlpacaMéribel has too many attractions to ignore for too long. Beyond skiing there’s a host of winter and summer sports, many of them based out of the Olympic Center that was built for the 1992 games. There is excellent dining – and drinking and dancing – to be found on the slopes, and back in town its worth asking your chalet team about tables at Le Grand Coeur or Chez Kiki, both offering local specialities and classically French menus, many at Kiki’s cooked over a wood grill. For a livelier night there are lots of options in a resort that remains young at heart. La Folie Douce is a good place to take your first drink on the way down from the slopes, while Barometer and L’Abreuvoir offer a slightly more sedate take on French après. In Méribel there is something for everyone.
