Dining and Dancing in Verbier

Dining and Dancing in Verbier

Fresh snow is on the way! That’s always a magical time in the Alps, and there’s always something new to offer visitors. Verbier has been particularly busy since the slopes closed for the summer. This winter look out for a new piste, Verbier’s first supper club, a brand new après bar, a make-over at an established favorite and three exciting new luxury chalets from Finest Holidays.

The supper club is called Etoile Rouge (the Red Star) and promises something entirely different, with food and dancing under the same roof.

It’s from the people behind Le Rouge, a ski-in/ski-out restaurant and club at 1,560m, that’s been popular for its fine cuisine and sparkling après ski since its 2008 opening.

Etoile Rouge will offer music and great food, but promises a lot more in its Place Centrale location (the former home of the Casbah) right in the heart of the village. “If you are afraid of the unknown and if you dislike the unexpected, then Etoile Rouge is not for you,” says founder Raphaël Igelman. “We wish to stimulate each of your bodily senses through a soft blend of fine food, music and artistic performances.”

DJ and producer Martin Solveig, who’s worked with Madonna among others, will be backing up his shareholding in the venture with an exclusive performance for 60 diners and 300 dancers sometime in February.

The menu will be Scandinavian and Eastern European influenced – Kamchatka crab, locally smoked wild salmon, a selection of fish eggs and caviars… Aquavits, vodkas and Champagnes will complement the food.

Etoile Rouge is designed to be somewhere you can drop into, or spend the whole night, moving from cocktails to dinner to dancing the night way. Soul-Division are this winter’s residents, testing out the state-of-the-art light and sound systems.

Etoile Rouge opens in December.

New restaurant, Le Mouton Rouge, is also offering visitors something new and different.

Sited at the top of the Medran ski lift, Le Mouton Noir, already looks impressive, with large terraces on which to enjoy the winter sun.

Marcus Bratter, who is behind this new venture, promises: “great food, amazing wines and the best entertainment, DJ’s, musicians, singers and dancers all at 2,200m.”

“Ski to Lunch, then party on, Verbier Style,” Marcus says. He certainly has a great location, with beautiful panoramic views.

The cuisine will be French Modern and the décor chilled urban chic. It’s another ski-to-the-door establishment and will help keep Verbier at the top of the polls as the party resort.

An established Verbier favorite has been moving with the times too with a major make-over at Le Farinet.

The après bar will stay the same – more toffee vodka and more bar-top dancing is promised – with great live bands.

The Lounge Bar is changing though. The cocktail team will still be mixing up magic, including the infamous Pornstar Martini, but there’s a new kitchen serving a tapas-style menu of small dishes and platters to share.

Not to forget the skiing, there’s also news of a new red piste on the mountain. The route is from the Planards-Carrefour path, swooping down to Les Esserts nursery slope. Called Planards-Les-Esserts and 1,000m long, the new piste will offer an alternative route down Savoleyres, away from routes that are often closed for avalanche risks.
