1 – Kolomenskoye Castle of Tzar Alexei Mikhailovich, Moscow: Built in the 1660s as a series of interconnected rooms and corridors, the wooden palace was later demolished. 8 – Rasnov Castle, Brasov, Romania: Located 650 feet above its namesake town, where Rasnov served as a fortress as far back as 1331. 9 – Cliveden House, Berkshire, United Kingdom: In the mid-seventeenth century, the Duke of Buckingham, George Villiers, purchased Cliff-dene and built the first great house on this site. A favourite of Charles II., Buckingham created a grand estate to entertain his friends and mistress in style. For more than 300 years Cliveden was home to dukes, earls, viscounts and for a while a Prince of Wales.
