Nestled in the Selkirk Range, between Mt. Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park, Revelstoke is a modern community that is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, and developing into one of British Columbia’s all season playgrounds. Mount Revelstoke National Park is a place of contrasts. Take a drive along the Meadows in the Sky parkway through a variety of geographical zones. From dense old-growth rainforest of giant cedar and pine, travel up through subalpine forest, and finally alpine meadows and tundra. Marvel at the spectacular view of the ice-clad peaks of the Monashee Mountains and, to the east, the Selkirk Mountains. The Giant Cedars hiking trail takes you through a stand of ancient Western Red Cedars, and the Skunk Cabbage trail introduces you to jungle-like wetland, a birder's paradise.
At present, Revelstoke Mountain Resort has 1500 acres of terrain over 27 trails and vast off-piste terrain to explore and a near certainty of deep powder conditions. Revelstoke Mountain Resort is probably best suited to advanced and intermediate skiers and snowboarders and there are heli-skiing packages are available too. The nearest international airport is at Kelowna. Direct flights between there and Britain and Europe are currently under discussion, avoiding a transfer flight from Calgary or Vancouver. As climatic conditions elsewhere become more marginal, the future of Revelstoke Mountain Resort seems assured.
The 2010-2011 season brought a number of new resort facilities, two new area boundaries, the cutting of a new lift line and a continued buzz surrounding the resort. Revelstoke Mountain Resort boosts Nth America's Highest Lift-Serviced Vertical (5620)and is the only resort worldwide to offer Lift, Cat, Heli and Backcountry skiing from one village base.
