Description

Inspiring interiors and unique location above the Isère river gorge prepare visitors for a wonderful stay in the mountains. Five bedrooms spread across four floors, luxury chalet Rive Gauche has a spectacular living and dining space which catches the last of the evening sun. An indoor pool and hammam, and a home run piste back to the door of the property spoil skiers choosing this special chalet. Chalet Rive Gauche is positioned in one of the most beautiful spots in Val d’Isère. It is enviably perched on the rocks above the Isère river gorge and sits at the bottom of the blue Mangard piste that comes into the village from Le Fornet, meaning you can comfortably ski back to the door. This chalet was constructed in 2014 by the renowned architect Michel Covarel.

Built in local stone and reclaimed wood to a design that sits perfectly in its location yet delivers a contemporary feel. Facing mainly west, it really benefits from the evening sun and creates a spectacular venue for drinks on the terrace in late winter and spring. The clever contemporary interior design still retains a wonderful mountain charm. The river lies directly beneath the chalet and gives the property a unique position and aspect. Rive Gauche is 150m from the main Fornet cable car, and is a short warm up walk in the morning or a hop in the 4x4. If you love your off-piste skiing then this property gives direct access to the famous off-piste areas of the Grand Vallon and Col Pers. The chalet is usually deep in snow for most of the winter.

Beginners and children alike will be pleased that in two quick lifts you will find gently sloping glacier skiing with unrivalled snow at 3,330 metres. Situated beautifully next to her sister chalet, Vieux Pont, enter the chalet into the reception area and ski room where there is a simple place for ski storage and all important boot warmers. On this level discover the indoor pool with flow system and a moroccan steam room with one of the best views in Val d'Isère overlooking the river and the old bridge.

Moving to the first floor you will find the main sleeping area where most of the bedrooms are located. Three of these rooms are king or twin rooms and are flexible on how they are configured. They benefit from mainly west facing views to catch the evening sun. There is also a small room that contains adult sized, fixed reclaimed wood bunk beds, with its own wash space.

The second floor has one of the most impressive spaces in the chalet, with a huge living and dining area that can easily entertain large numbers of people. With double-height windows, huge amounts of light flood onto this floor. There is an outside terrace overlooking the river and the italian border mountains. The reclaimed wood table seats ten and there is also a card or breakfast table for four. The log fireplace is a central focus for the room and there is a large flat screen television for catching up on sporting events or just watching a movie.

The chalet is fully serviced. The professional chefs will contact you before arrival to discuss your menus for the week. There is also an in house host who provides an exceptional concierge service to help you with the booking of ski tuition, guides, equipment or help with restaurant reservations. The chalet comes with access to our 4x4 Landrover driving service and chauffeur, who also doubles as our go to person for snow and weather updates and lift openings.

Infos/Activities

Our luxury ski chalets in Val d'Isère are available catered and self-catered, for the best luxury ski holidays ever. Some are Ski in/Ski out and many have swimming pools, sauna, hammam and hot tubs. Val d'Isère is located only five kilometres from Italy, on the border of the Vanoise National Park, created in 1963.

LUXURY SKI HOLIDAYS IN VAL D'ISERE

The ski resort Val d'Isère in the Savoie region of France, is a colourful winter sports haven that began as a farm community in the years B.C. The town received parish rights in 1637 and the parish church, which is still a landmark in the town centre, was built in 1664.

The charming village finds its 1,800 residents outnumbered 15 to one by guests in winter. The western and central areas of Val d'Isère are most recognizable by their "chalet" architecture, while in the eastern part of the town high-rise architecture dominates the landscape.

Along with nearby purpose-built Tignes the area forms part of the Espace Killy, the self-titled "Most Beautiful Ski Area in the World". Named for Olympic hero Jean-Claude Killy, who grew up in Val d'Isère, Val is the better-known part of the skiing region and one of the best ski destinations in the French Alps.

The Val d'Isère village is long and thin at the bottom of a deep V-shaped valley. As you approach the resort you pass by Lac du Chevril, under which the old town of Tignes (sunk in 1952) is found. You then enter Val d'Isère via La Daille where the Olympic downhill run finishes. This is a very popular way for skiers to leave the mountain on Val d'Isère holidays, as it is directly below the greatest après ski party in France at Folie Douce. The ski down at closing time is riotous but only recommended for strong intermediates and above. The Pissaillas Glacier offers summer skiing, as well as the usual winter fare.

SKIING IN VAL D'ISERE

The ski slopes themselves are equipped with a high-volume gondola, able to transport standing skiers, the funicular Funival from La Daille via a tunnel to the top of Bellevarde, traditional chair lifts - some with windshields and many detachable, button/disc-pulls - and tow-ropes. There are both groomed slopes and backcountry (off-piste) skiing. The slopes' difficulty levels are particularly high. However, as in Tignes there are grand, easy  pistes as well. It is first class off-piste country for powder addicts and there are many good guides available.
