Description

Singita Grumeti: Sabora & Faru Faru

Sabora Tented Camp in Tanzania represents a return to an enchanted time. For those who had the adventurous spirit and the means to go on safari in their grandest manner, the 1920s and 30s were a golden age. Now at Sabora, that bygone era lives on in a setting of overwhelming grandeur: a plain that spans the horizon, a great blue vault of sky overhead and the age-old passage of wildlife beyond numbering. To be so close to such an elemental and primordial world is unforgettable. To experience it in such comfort and style is the unique promise of Sabora.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp has 9 en-suite tents lavishly furnished with a treasure trove of antiques and artefacts, original campaign furniture, Zanzibari chests, Persian rugs, and masses of crystal, silverware and brass. Maasai blankets and traditional beadwork add an authentic local touch. The tents lead directly onto the plains where day beds are scattered to provide spots for afternoon naps and incredible game-viewing.

Faru Faru Lodge is built on a gently sloping hill above a beautiful waterhole and the Grumeti River. In the dry season, after the great herds have departed for greener pastures in the north, the Grumeti draws in large concentrations of resident wildlife. Elephant, Cape Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, gazelle, impala and topi all seek life-sustaining water from the river. Even in places where the river runs dry, water flows just beneath the sand and many species dig to find it. Still others congregate around the remaining pools of the river. Because the animals gather here all through the year, Faru Faru offers a constantly changing and completely private wildlife spectacle. Singita Faru Faru Lodge is a mix of contemporary, organic style and the quirky practicality of a traditional botanist’s camp.

Infos/Activities

Singita Grumeti Reserves is located in northern Tanzania and forms part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, bordering on the Serengeti National Park. The Singita Grumeti Reserves concession spans a vast 350,000 acres (140,000 hectares) of relatively untouched wilderness. The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is well-known for the great wildlife and home to the Big Five of Africa: Elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. You also can see wildebeests, zebras and antelopes. Discover this large and wild game park. In Tanzania, more land is devoted by law to preserve the unique eco-system than within any other wildlife observation destination on the globe. Remote reserves, untouched coral reefs, crater highlands and world-famous national parks are to be sheltered for future generations. One travels the East African country with astonishment and reverence for this magnificent natural scenery.

Tanzania can be translated - snow-covered peaks in the Kilimanjaro massif with Africa's highest mountain, the Kibo (5895 meters), "endless plain", the Serengeti, which extends into the south of Kenia, huge craters as Ngorongoro, vulcanos, three of the largest lakes - Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi - on the Dark Continent and of course 16 national parks.
Acacia umbrellas and baobab trees, the beguiling scent of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and turmeric on the Arab-influenced island of Zanzibar, tropical rainforests, endless savannahs and bush land, anchored dhows on the coasts and snow-white powder sand beaches on Pemba - this too means Tanzania.

Are you looking for the best dive sites on the Swahili coast? Would you like to learn more about trekking tours through the Ngorongoro Highlands? Or are you looking for your very own individual safari adventure? Then Tanzania is the place to be - the colours and sounds of Africa come alive in Tanzania. Lose your heart in the boundless plains of the country's oldest national park, the Serengeti, one of Africa's most beloved safari destinations, where horizons know no ends are and discover the spectacular landscape and breathtaking wildlife on an exclusive safari designed to your personal perceptions, perfect for observing the annually recurring natural spectacle, animal migration. Witness the legendary herds of elephants, tree-climbing lions, the lush birdlife, wander through the smaller reserves on a trek or a day trip - accompanied by experienced trackers - and immerse yourself in the year-round wildlife paradise.

Besides the obvious natural attractions Tanzania has to offer, the country’s towns and cities also make pleasant stops, with plenty to do and see. Many of Tanzania’s coastal cities were founded as port towns from which valuable goods were transported across the Indian Ocean by sailing dhow. On the mainland, many inland towns were important rest stops for trade caravans on their way to Central Africa or Lake Victoria, or returning back to the East African coast. In the northern highlands, many small towns were founded by the Germans as centres of colonial administration and agriculture. Today, Tanzania’s towns and cities still specialize in trade and agriculture, and are the centres of economic activity in their regions. Besides their obvious importance for the country’s local economy, the towns and cities of Tanzania have many historical and cultural sites of interest to visitors.
